Hiring a marquee? Unsure which size to choose? Our simple guide will help you through!

Size Matters!

Probably the first and most important thing to consider, how big does the marquee you are hiring need to be?

How Much Space Do You Have?

The first question we always ask a customer is do they have a limitation on space or a certain area they want covering (eg: a patio). You may have a huge garden in which case it doesn’t matter. However, if you are limited on space, the best thing to do is measure the garden first. This can be done by simply taking a tape measure and checking the width and length of the garden. If you are unsure how to do this you can always give us a call and we’ll talk you through it. Alternatively we can arrange a site visit free of charge to check out the area for you.

How Much Space do You Need?

Once you know the size of the area, the next question is how many guests will be attending? Most people have a rough idea of numbers but there will always be a few no shows with poor excuses. Not forgetting the long lost cousins who want to get in on the action. My advice for this – go slightly larger, as it’s better to have too much space then not enough at all.

You will also need to consider the equipment that will fill the marquee. For example, will you be having a dance floor? Some buffet tables? All of these will need to be considered when choosing a size. Weddings usually take up more room than birthday parties as you have people seated and all sorts of entertainment and extras on the side.

Standing or seated?

Are you having a sit down meal or will it be casual standing with a few tables and chairs? With this question answered you can check out our pricing page, which lists details of how many people, seated and standing, each marquee can hold. Our recommendations for standing include space for tables for a finger buffet and so that people aren’t crammed in like sardines! Same goes for our recommendations for seated, again it’s better to have too much room than not enough!

We are able to provide furniture for your event. We have a large range of tables and chairs including the popular vintage chiavari chairs and rustic crossback chairs.

So, for the size you require, do you have a big enough area? Can you invite more guests than previously thought? Or will you be dropping a few off the guest list.. (mother in law, etc.).

If you are still unsure, please feel free to give us a call and we can talk you through it and work out the best possible options for your event. We can draw up seating plans to fit inside your marquee or venue.
